About

"The Grey" serves as a powerful symbol of Sarah's mental health journey, representing the ongoing process of uncovering and understanding previously hidden aspects of the self. Her still life photographs are created using torches and long exposures, a technique akin to "painting" with light within the image. Through this unique process, Sarah visually explores the unveiling of the hidden facets of human experience. Complementing this introspective work, Sarah also utilizes reportage photography as a powerful tool to interpret the world at their own pace, offering a personal reflection on the surrounding environment.

Originally from Australia, Sarah de Grauw has been based in London since 2012. Trained in photography using both large format analogue and digital cameras, Sarah began her career in a mixed-discipline advertising studio, balancing commercial work with personal reportage projects. This path led to project management within content creation, a role she pursued for many years, gradually reducing personal artistic output until it ceased altogether.

The landscape of content creation has dramatically shifted since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, evolving into something almost unrecognizable from its beginnings. Following a series of challenging roles and difficult experiences, Sarah has returned to the craft of photography, exploring its profound connection to personal mental health. This rediscovery marks a return to artistic practice after over a decade hiatus.
